A New Space to Worship

I hope you’re well today. Team Middle and I are praying for all affected by Hurricane Ida and the other “storms of life” raging about the globe.

I’m writing from my sabbatical to share some fabulous news: As of today, we officially have a new space to worship!

Beginning on Sunday, October 10, we’ll be worshipping in-person at the Parish of Calvary ~ St. George’s at 61 E. 21st Street at our usual 11:45a ET. Of course, we will continue to love on all of you—no matter where you live—if you choose to worship in our digital church on our website home page, on Youtube, and on Facebook. Our team is hard at work creating a hybrid worship experience that will engage all of us.

I’m also happy to share that our fully vaccinated staff now has office and program space at the former Intersections International office, at 145 W. 28th Street. All of our programs will continue to meet digitally as well, so all of us can participate no matter where you live.

For those who will want to attend worship or programs in-person, it’s crucial go get vaccinated if you haven’t already! Due to the rising threat from the COVID-19 Delta variant, we will need to restrict attendance to people who have been fully vaccinated, in addition to requiring masks indoors. That means you need to schedule your second dose of Pfizer/Moderna or your first dose of Johnson & Johnson by Sunday, September 26 to account for the two-week waiting period.

Please plan to join us for our fabulous Homecoming Worship Celebration at the special time of 11:00 a.m. ET on Sunday, October 3. We’ll gather on 2nd Avenue in front of the Middle facade. It will be my first Sunday back from sabbatical, and I can’t wait to rock the street with our music and joyous love. Click here to RSVP, so we know how to plan. This Sunday, I hope you’ll join us at 11:45 a.m. ET for a special Labor Day celebration. Rev. Ben Perry will be preaching about how “Love Demands a Labor Year,” calling us to transform this hot mess into God’s economy. And, as we think about budgets as moral documents, I hope you’ll consider making a recurring donation to Middle so we can count on your support as we transform love into action.

Ida has made me think about how important Love is as a “shelter in the time of storm.” This fiercely loving community is shelter for so many. Thank you for making it be so.
